Tehran, the capital province of Iran, covers on area of 18,909 square kilometers and is located to the north of the central plateau and on the southern slope of the Alborz mountain range. Its elevation ranges from 700 to 5,678 m, within a short distance, and results in a high diversity of alpine lichens. It is situated at the crossing point of the Irano-Turanian region with dry desert and the Hyrcanian region with wet forests. Most of Iranian endemic lichens have been described from this province.
Most of lichens have been reported from the surrounding areas of Karaj, Kalak, Kandwan mt. in the West and Northwest, and Tehran, Tuochal mt. (North) and Damavand mt. and Firozkuh (Northeast). An asterisk (*) after a literature reference denotes that the type material of the taxon is from Iran.
