The province Razavi Khorasan covers an area of approximately 144,681 km². It borders with Afghanistan in the east and with Turkmenistan in the northeast. The area is transitional between the Siberian climatic region and the desert. Four climate types can be distinguished: cold-montane; temperate-montane; temperate semi-desert and hot-dry desert (Parsa, 1978). Most of the collecting so far has been done in the surroundings of Mashhad, Nishabor, Rivash, Kalat Naderi, Akhlamad, Torbatejam and Kohe Bizg.
