Last Post: October 2009

The province of Hamadan covers an area of 19,546 km2. It is a green, mountainous region, on the foothills of Mt Alwand (3574 m), E of Zagros. It has a temperate climate but the vast plains in the north and northeast suffer from strong winds almost throughout the year. The reported lichens originate mainly from the surroundings of Mt. Alwand.
