The province Fars, with an area of 122,400 km², is situated in the south of the country. The Zagros Mountains, stretching from the northwest to the southeast, divide it into two distinct geographical regions, both mountainous highlands. Because of the mountainous terrein most of reported lichens are saxicolous and the province is likely to have higher rate of diversity in saxicolous and terricolous lichens as in epiphytic lichen. Most of the reported lichens originate from the surroundings of Shiraz, Dashte-arzhan, and Bamu.
